First, there are indeed those forgotten plants we get rediscovering. Florence Orris Oil - nowadays confined to the almost confidential niche of 'haute parfumerie' - was commonly used until the 17th century, as proven by many formularies.
An other product used from times immemorial is the Lotus flower. It belongs to the Ayurveda medicines, is used during Hindu religious ceremonies, and belongs to the Eastern world traditional cosmetics. But it is only a few years ago this flower had its value been recognized by Occidental perfumery.
Why? Because of its so characteristic Absolute, mixing in paradoxical harmony aqueous, flowery, and spicy notes.
