The cistus and labdanum products our company supplies are created from the botanical variety Cistus ladaniferus var beta maculatus Dun, which grows wild in the Sierra Norte Regional Park. This natural protected area north of the Province of Seville, Andalusia, Spain, is home to a diverse ecosystem composed of a multitude of aromatic plants. Among these is the cistus ladanifer, exuding an amber-like fragrance that perfumes the scrub from June to October.

To this day, harvesting cistus is a traditional activity performed manually using a sickle. Cutting begins at sunrise and ends at 11 a.m. to ensure more comfortable working conditions for our cistus-cutter crews. Only cistus plants that are three to four years of age are sufficiently mature to produce the precious gum that protects them from the scorching heat of the sun. From these plants, only the year’s green shoots – the most fragrant – are collected, leaving the rest of the plant in the ground to allow regrowth the following year.

The young branches, grouped in of 30- to 40-kilogram bundles, are immediately transported to our production center in Almaden de la Plata to be distilled or extracted with organic volatile solvents. They are the very soul of Albert Vieille’s signature products, all 100% pure and natural: cistus and labdanum essential oils and absolutes.
